Help Me Find My Dog!

Little Fighter Alpha Ch.9

"im sure someone else has suggested it but"

date: July 17, 2008

i think you should look into getting one of those virtual camera things... the one that moves around with the characters and zooms in and such. i mean you're pretty limited with just using sprites so i think having another element would make it much more enjoyable to watch than just a still zoomed out shot...
go ask around on the forums. im sure you'll find one. i know im looking around.

I'm currently using some camera works for Ch.10, you should check it out when it's out! Yeah i too noticed the static camera view for my fight scenes and thought of using some camera work, but it's too late by the time I realized that.

Undead Steel

"lol, gotta love the 10er's"

just because something is abstract and experimental doesn't mean its good. abstract art focuses 'more' ... on composition and lighting and the elements that really make up art. if you were trying to be serious for this one consider such things as those. you have interesting color and textures, the music goes perfectly with those. but maybe the voters DO know what they're talking about. its not artistically impressive. just unique. composition is the first thing i would suggest working on for abstract things like this. positive shapes on a bg is just boring. the shapes are the only thing that interested me. the movements were kinda cool but were basically all similar. keep in mind i would give something like calvin carcass #1 a higher score than im giving this because its a different genre, it can cut certain corners and 'ignore' certain things because of its content. with abstract art and animation there are plenty of things that you can't ignore if you want to make something more interesting.

Circuit Skirmish 2

"awesome. very smooth"

submission: Circuit Skirmish 2
date: July 13, 2008

the fighting sequences were very smooth. you should have a greater change of scenery though. i think thats one thing that makes fight scenes interesting to watch. that and the interaction with the scenery.
if there's one thing im not fancy about is the main character's design. he just seems really short and stocky and doesn't fit with his swift movements. idk... maybe you could consider him getting an upgrade or something. just so design and movements match better.
5/5 this should be higher on the weekly best.

Thanks! I made him very basic/blocky so he looks like the exact opposite of perfect....kind of a battered up prototype robot.

Monster's Dream

"wow that was really impressive."

submission: Monster's Dream
date: July 7, 2008

the music and style of backgrounds really gave a cool feeling. just the angles you chose and everything were great. really made the viewer part of the animation. the design of the whole thing worked out great. but you should work on the animation of the character. he seems like a sheet of paper because of the shapes he makes when he turns. he looks skinnier at a profile view than he would judging by the front view. just little things like that that look a little bit unnatural... even though it is a dream XP.
5/5 great job and thanks for the extras it was really interesting.

Author's Response:

no you are right, dream excuse asside the monster could use some fine tuning on the flatness front, inside and outside dream animations :D so ill definitely work on that. as for everything else thanks so much! glad you enjoyed the extras too! great review

Bitter Bill

"six 'n a half months in vain..."

submission: Bitter Bill
date: July 6, 2008

this wouldn't take that long if you knew how to make a flash swift-moving and enjoyably quick. there was a lot of stuff that probably took a long time to animate and just ended up boring the viewer. you have some parts that look natural but overall there are laggy movements and shrinkage with the character. also the character designs limit what you can animate with them. the humongous feet and tiny arms just look kinda stupid. so i think timing and character design are two things you need to work on. visually this just isn't that captivating.

Author's Response:

The problem is that when you're working with little dialogue and given all the time to animate, you tend to just go overboard. Anyway, thanks for the advice and I'll be sure to work on it.

"good surroundings and concept but"

date: July 1, 2008

you need to work on perfecting the basics like running and walking. i noticed a few places looked awkward. you pretty much made up for it with the sound and detail. i know i certainly couldn't have that much detail.
also i think the trackbar should fade out, because it felt that it was covering some part up.
great job. it has a good potential storyline.

Crows' Life Episode 3

"wow this is some great animation!"

date: June 30, 2008

almost all of the animation was perfectly smooth and understandable... but i think you have the opposite of what something say Pokemon would do, which is lots of standing and no body movement, meaning you have too much body movement with not a lot of talking. you need less unnecessary body movements, it'll just look more natural.
but seriously this is some of the best animation, particularly dubbing animation, that i've seen on NG. Awesome job. can't wait till the next one.

Author's Response:

yea, I'll try making them talk more and moving less. I'll get more animation done with less effort, yea, sometimes they overreact, especially the first dialouges xD

Drawing Tutorial: Female

"sorry man but"

date: June 19, 2008

no woman in the world looks like that. the proportions are really weird the shapes of the parts like waist and shoulders are all wrong... if you could see the things were awkward, why'd you keep it that way? just Ctrl Z and draw it again, its just flash. Don't preach some complicated measuring formula to get people confused- there should be an eye in the chin and a line around here from ear to ear... if you really wanted to teach people about the construction of the face, you could take pictures of differently constructed faces and show how they work and how they differ from each other. all faces are different and people can get a general outline of proportions of mainly the body through tutorials but once you get into how the stance should be and how things align... thats where you go wrong. everything in the body changes alignment in different stances.
pretty good for a tutorial but make sure you get it right before you go confusing people.
AND DAMN YOU! i kept having to scroll down i couldn't hit the next button. XD

June 20, 2008

Author's Response:

YEa... People complained on my last tutorial that it didn't explain enough. This was a response to that. As far as not changing it, I was freakin tired and my band had a gig and I'm going on vacation today for a month so that was the only chance I had to submit.
And for the chin eye ear thing, that's what I personally think about when drawing faces. I honestly had no idea if it would be helpful or not. oh well.

I completely agree with you that looking at pictures would be helpful. I originally was going to add pictures, but I'm a stickler for copyright laws, and I couldn't find any stock photos that proved my point.

And about the buttons... JEEZ PEOPLE, HOW BIG ARE YOUR MONITERS?! Like, 600 by 400? wtf? I realized that I am lucky to have my 1280x1024, but SERIOUSLY. You should be able to see the buttons by pressing F11... I think. I don't know. w/e. i'm done.

o thanks for the helpful review! =DD

"hmm"

date: April 14, 2008

big fan of the series. but this was a little disappointing, i know every series has to have a plot section where it's quieter and i think those help the story but this wasn't as good as the others in my opinion. also perhaps you could stray away from using as many photo backgrounds as you do. it has a weird contrast to your style of cartooning.
despite all that, you still get a 5/5 because its awesome.
