i really liked the beginning

and how it was so unique as far as timing went. that sound was really working. (not the alarm it was nice that that faded) but if you had a substitution for that with a similar yet less harsh synth that kept some nice intensity through the rest of the song would be nice.

so basically it could use more intensity in the middle and end just like the beginning. although i'm sure with sound effects and all it could work in the gameplay. anyway 4/5 cuz of that. i really like the pt. 1 though, 'fived that one.

durn responds:

thanks a lot. :) if you have half-life 2 you should go to www.torontoconflict.com and download the mod. :)

you need a much stronger

kick. that thing wasn't impressive for all the build it got.
just strengthen that and submit it again. im sure it would get an even better response.

Yelltek responds:

yeah i know, in our next song we will make a much stronger kick and bass!
anyway, thanks for the review!

well theres not much i can say

that others have not already said. so just two things i noticed. starting at 0:50 it started to sound like pirates of the Caribbean specifically at 1:05-1:08. it was kinda the abrupt two notes or so replaying the chord. i don't think it really fit in the song very well. and the voice. whose was it? it was really throaty, it should have been deep and from the diaphragm, along with that i think it should have taken a bigger role in that part of the song. it would have added a lot to it.
5/5 great job.

MaestroRage responds:

and before Pirates of the Caribbean that was used in Starship Trooper's soundtrack. That technique is not something that was invented for PotC, and is used in many many songs both old and new. The voice was a library bought from Bela D studios, the Tenor they call it there. Recording of a professional Tenor, so I don't really know what to say about that. Maybe I mixed it in poorly but the library tenor doesn't sound throaty to me. I agree, I should have used it in other places.

Thanks for the honesty and the review, glad you liked it!

pretty wicked dude.

im making my own 8bit songs. some for a game my friend is making but im interested in where you got these sounds. what do you use and where did you get these sounds? i use ModTracker and i get some pretty cool results. but its not really the same as what you have here. check out some of my songs to hear what im talking about (i labled the 8bit ones omegabit)
anyways, the song. i like some of the cool rhythms and harmonies you have going but i think you could have a little more variation in the repeating of verses and stuff. i like what you were doing with percussion, it sounds a lot more videogame than what i've come up with. so all in all, great song but be careful about the parts that are repetitive and droning with the same thing over again. its videogame but you can have changes within the riff.
5/5

As for 8bit sounds, the music/wave channels are done with Magical 8-bit Plugin, just tweaking the parts here and there for different sounds. The plugin is free online.
The drums are done with Toad NES drums v1.3 , which can be found for free as well!

Thanks for the great review, I will keep that stuff in mind for the next one! Cheers!

its not ambient

but i like it. its a nice glitch pad like song... i can see where there are some ambient influences. but i think you might get a better response to something cool like this if you placed it under a more suitable genre. classical? idk, nice song though. i especially liked the drums, it had a undertone of dnb.
5/5 9/10 however because you could have cranked up the bass

bluedragon117 responds:

thanks for the review. i wasnt sure if it should be put under classical or ambient but im glad you like it. ill see if i can put a bit more base in the song as well.

nice to hear this finished!

as a whole this is strong, but some parts are a lot stronger than others. the build at 2:10 was pretty epic but i think the wimpy follow up at 2:51 killed it. goa is really driving and continuously building. i think some of the beats like after 2:51 was more traditional hat clap hat, hat clap hat feel not relentless streaming goa hats....
however the staticky build with addition of industrial instruments was AWESOME and really dark and smooth building up. but again, the follow up was a little weak. specifically in the kick. a lot of the time, the sharp kick w/ 6th and 7th bands up is backed by a strong sub kick. i think the 2 measure break was a little abrupt but you made up for it plenty with those wicked bongo rolls and helicopter sounds. after that build settled i think it was a little empty and i could see some sharp modulation changing saw Really helping that area. the ending was smooth and fit well.
5/5 awesome job, glad you finished it. this will sound even better with the ron speeches.

x-Exodus-X responds:

Cool, cool, thanks.

A sub kick. That is an excellent idea. I don't know why I didn't think of it. Awesome.

About the build ups, I totally know what you mean, but I find it hard to make goa more intense than it sounded already. I will keep practicing, and hope I improve :)

You should make/submit a goa song..well I am glad you liked it, I really have to get to ron-a-fying it.

dude... this stuff is amazing.

i hadn't heard anything from you in a long time, and when i check back here on your page, im amazed. when this started out im like oh boy, not another benny benassi mix, but then things started building. i would say take out the sidestick thing in the beginning, or master it much differently. the bass is just pushing it on the distortion though, idk what to think there. its a wicked riff, so don't get me wrong. the intro to the main part at 0:41 is really intense and you pulled it off well. the balancing of sounds at the climax was successful. but the thing that was really killing me and idk if anyone else mentioned this, but the pads in the bg are slightly off rhythm, and it's just ruining the climax, take it back like a 16th or two back and see how it sounds.
5/5 you need to finish this!

-crepth

p4c responds:

yah now that i listen to it, the sidechaining is a little slow. i can fix that later

i keep on telling myself ill finish this, and i never doooooo... aHhhHHH! ill see haha

wow... ditto to what the guy below said

this should be much higher with its rating. i loved it. it was totally epic like you were thinking. cept at 2:20 it died down for some reason. i think it should have kept going and you should have brought in the intense drums. im glad you were featured this week cause you have some awesome stuff here man.
5/5 but 9/10 'cause its too short and you could have done so much more with it.

ArienV responds:

Thank you for the thoughtful review.
I totally get what you mean how it dies down pretty fast, and I took that to heart with my latest track and tried not to rush it. I think it's an insecurity thing, I don't give the listener much credit, as if I expect them to lose interest really fast.
Sorry for the super late response, I don't check this much. Better few years late than never! :P

bahahahaha

i smell top five material right here. i especially liked the solo at around 38 secs

trashcanman responds:

go go go go

i've always liked this one the most.

the melody is just really catchy and epic. i agree with jake that this would make the best geometry wars song. but i think only with some mixing. the intro was successful and same with the sweeps. the lead was very fitting. however, i think i mentioned it before, the last few measures of the melody, 7 and 8 are just filling parts and should be as catchy as the rest of it. the bass was also nice for the song, it was kinda droney + throbbing at the same time, good.
nice to see another one from ya again.
5/5

x-Exodus-X responds:

I'm glad you liked the lead, I layed a z3ta one and the soundfont one I sent you, and they came together quite nicely.

Aside from the 7/8 measures of the melody, what do you think I could improve in the mixing?

Thanks for the review, brah. Wow, a 10/10?! AND a 5/5? niccccceeeeeee
